What you need to know about Scalp DermaBrasions

Healthy hair grows from a healthy scalp, and if your scalp is not in good shape, you can’t expect your hair to be either.

Every single strand of your hair grows through a hair follicle which surfaces on the scalp. The sebaceous glands on the scalp produce oils which protect your hair and keep it hydrated. The problem is, sometimes the glands produce too much oil, and it builds up, along with dead skin and grime, and blocks the hair follicle. When hair follicles are blocked, healthy hair can’t grow from them, so it’s important that they’re kept clear. This is where scalp dermabrasion comes in.

What is scalp microdermabrasion?

Think of it as being like an exfoliating facial for the scalp. We use HairDreams Scalp Activator in the salon, which gently exfoliates the scalp, and gets rid of any build-up of oil, products, and dead skin so that healthier skin cells come to the surface, and hair follicles are unclogged. This means that healthy hair can start growing from the follicles again.

Can I have a Scalp DermaBrasion treatment?

The treatment is perfect for men and women whose hair problems stem from the condition of their scalp. It’s great for people who use hair fibers, spray-on scalp colour, or dry shampoo, as these products clog the follicles and prevent the hair from growing properly. If you do want to continue using these, having a regular dermabrasion treatment will make your scalp healthier.

If you have sores, tenderness of the scalp, or any rashes, this treatment is not suitable for you, and you should see your doctor or a trichologist for further treatment and advice.

What does the treatment involve?

The product is massaged gently into the scalp for around one minute, then it’s left on for about 10 minutes before it’s thoroughly rinsed off. Your hair is washed and styled as usual, and you should be able to feel and see the difference straight away!

How often should I have the treatment?

The treatment should be done every 30 days.

Quick tips for a healthy scalp

Eat a healthy diet

Healthy hair grows from a healthy scalp, but to have a healthy scalp, you need to be in good health overall. Eat a balanced diet, full of fruit, vegetables, lean protein, wholegrains, and healthy fats to make sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need. It might be a good idea to invest in a specific supplement for your hair as an insurance policy too.

Watch what you put on your scalp

Use a gentle shampoo that doesn’t contain harsh detergents that can irritate the scalp or silicones that can clog the hair follicles.

Is your scalp not as healthy as it could be?

Ask in salon about our scalp treatments. Whether your scalp is dry, oily, or flaky, we have a treatment that can restore it, and your hair, back to health.
